Outreach Programme

We aim to provide a unique venue for educational visits through our outreach programme (click here for booklet), catering for:

  • Pupils of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs,

  • Pre-school children

  • The wider community

The farm has a full-time member of staff (Bev James) dedicated to the provision of these visits, craft workshops and tailor-made activities either on the farm premises, or in your own school. (See VISITS page for details of cost)

Possible workshops include:

Spinning and Weaving

Preparation of fleece for handspinning, learning to use a drop spindle with an assortment of fleece, including some from our own sheep. Weaving with paper, wool and other natural materials, learning about different weaving patterns and equipment.

Feltmaking

Learning how to make felt from fleece. Pupils will each make a piece of felt, then work together to make a collaborative piece to display in their own classroom.

Natural dyeing

Dyeing wool, fabric and paper using a selection of natural dyestuffs, collected from the farm where possible, depending upon the season. This workshop will cover a selection of methods including marbling, tie dye and resist dyeing.

3D Projects

An opportunity to make something large and messy! We have plenty of space for children to make more ambitious sculptures than they may be able to work on in their own classrooms. We can offer wire and modroc modelling and willow sculpture - how about making a lifesize sheep to take back to your school?

In addition we have organised workshops involving: Drawing and Painting from Nature and Printmaking.
